Moray Offshore Windfarm West today announced a major contract with Port of Cromarty Firth (pictured) for for storage and marshalling of 62 monopiles for the 882MW project.
The 12-month contract (beginning Q2 2023) makes Moray West the first customer of the Port’s new laydown facility, comprising 9 acres of reclaimed land as a laydown area, with a 218m new quayside.
Dredging and construction work to deliver the new £30m (€33m) facility started in 2019 after a similar investment commitment made by Moray West’s sister project, Moray East.
Adam Morrison, country manager for Moray West developer Ocean Winds, said: “The new facilities at the Port of Cromarty Firth will be in high demand to deliver the huge new offshore wind capacity of Scotwind.
“In 2019, I was delighted to be part of the Moray East project team which enabled the investment to deliver this new facility.
“Today I am delighted that Moray West should be its first customer.
“With a (ca.) 1GW project currently operational, a 1GW project under construction and a further 4GW to develop in Scotland, Ocean Winds is Scotland’s second largest offshore wind developer.
“We have been delivering offshore wind generation to Scotland since the commercial start of the industry here in 2010.
“We operate the windfarms that we design and build, and this long-term commitment to Scotland is reflected by our investment in and use of its infrastructure.”
