Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) has opened an office in Wellington, New Zealand, to support efforts to develop offshore wind in the country.
The new office joins COP’s growing presence in the region, which includes an office in Melbourne, Australia.
COP Australia and New Zealand CEO Charles Rattray (pictured) will lead the Wellington office, working on projects that include an offshore wind development in South Taranaki, off the west coast of the country’s North Island.
The project is being developed on behalf of a joint venture between New Zealand Super Fund and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Rattray said: “We are proud to establish our local footprint in Aotearoa New Zealand and to support the country’s renewable energy ambitions.
“The South Taranaki region has great potential for offshore wind development given shallow water depths, promising wind resources, and synergies to establish a local supply chain.”
In the broader region, COP has been leading development for Australia’s first offshore wind project, the 2.2GW Star of the South.
Across Asia Pacific the company is leading fixed and floating offshore wind ventures in Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan.
