Boralex has completed the acquisition of a 50% stake from EDF Renewables in five operating wind farms totalling 894MW in the US.
These projects include the 200MW Hereford, 200MW Longhorn and 194MW Spinning Spur projects in Texas as well as the 50MW Milo and 250MW Roosevelt developments in New Mexico.
Each site was commissioned between 2014 and 2016 and all feature Vestas turbines, with Hereford also comprising machines from GE Renewable Energy.
Spinning Spur and Roosevelt have 13-year busbar power purchase agreements (PPA) while Longhorn holds a 3-year hubsettled PPA.
Hereford and Milo are both fully merchant projects.
Boralex president and chief executive officer Patrick Decostre said: “Located in one of the United States’ most robust wind resources areas, these wind farms will grow and diversify our presence in the United States.
“This acquisition represents Boralex’s entry into the ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) and SPP (Southwest Power Pool) markets.
“This acquisition highlights the strategic, creative, and persistent approach to acquisitions our reputation is built upon.
“I am extremely proud of the Boralex team who worked together to make this a reality.”
EDF Renewables chief financial officer Luis Silva said: “Considering EDF Renewables’ extensive development capabilities throughout North America, divestures provide an opportunity to rebalance our portfolio of owned assets.
“We are grateful to have worked constructively with the local stakeholders in Texas and New Mexico over the last decade and are pleased to partner with Boralex on this transfer of ownership.”
