The 2500MW Baltica offshore wind farm in Poland has had its contract price approved by the European Commission and the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO).

The decision covered individual prices in contracts for difference (CfD) for both stages of the project, Baltica 2 and Baltica 3, which are being developed by PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Orsted.

The individual price in the CfD for both stages of the Baltica offshore wind farm was set at the maximum allowable level of 319.6 zloty ($72) per MWh.

According to the schedule, the launch of the first stage of the project, the 1GW Baltica 3, is planned for 2026.

The next stage, the 1.5GW Baltica 2, is to be commissioned in 2027.

Both stages of the Baltica OWF have location decisions (PszW), environmental decisions, connection agreements with the transmission network operator, permits for laying and maintenance of cables (PUUK), and have been granted the right to a contract for difference (CfD).

Project partners have started work on obtaining building permits, which are the last permits required before making the final investment decision.

“Our Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 projects are the first offshore wind farms in Poland to receive positive decisions of the European Commission and the President of the Energy Regulatory Office regarding the approval of the individual level of support,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

“The decisions of the President of the Energy Regulatory Office to grant support for Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will be one of the key factors for making the final investment decision regarding the construction of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.”
