Van Oord has chosen the Port of Blyth as the location for the storage and mobilisation of array cables for the 1400MW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm.
With the commencement of the inter-array cable installation in 2024, the Port of Blyth will be the cable base for one of the world’s largest single offshore wind farms.
In total, approximately 350 km of inter-array cable will pass through the Port’s Battleship Wharf Terminal into quayside storage tanks, prior to installation by Van Oord’s cable-laying vessel Nexus.

The 1.4GW Sofia Offshore Wind Farm project is located on Dogger Bank in the central North Sea, 195 km off the North East coast of the UK.
The RWE project represents a more than £3bn investment in the UK’s energy infrastructure industry and once constructed will generate enough green power to supply the equivalent of around 1.2 million homes.
