Bladt Industries and Semco Maritime have confirmed they have been selected to deliver two offshore substations for the 1200MW Baltic Power offshore wind project off the coast of Poland.
The partners will construct two substations in 2022 through to 2025 as key components of the electrical infrastructure for the wind farm, which will host more than 70 turbines, each with a minimum capacity of 14MW.
The consortium is one of several key contractors and suppliers to sign reservation agreements with the developers Orlen Group and Northland Power.
Each substation will be a 2500-tonne steel structure standing on foundations and rising about 20 metres above the sea level.
The consortium will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the offshore substations.
Bladt Industries is a supplier focused exclusively on offshore wind with experience in the manufacturing of steel structures for offshore substations, transition pieces, monopile and jacket foundations realised at sites in Poland and Denmark.
Semco Maritime has carried out the development, construction and commissioning of substations for several offshore wind projects.
“We are proud to have been selected for this Polish milestone project based on our experience, knowledge and track record.
“Together with our partner Semco Maritime we look forward to delivering yet another joint project for the offshore wind industry.
“At Bladt Industries we are pleased to be perceived as a safe pair of hands and to join forces to safely and successfully deliver in support of offshore wind in Poland,” said Anders Søe-Jensen, CEO, Bladt Industries.
Jarosław Broda, Member of the Management Board of Baltic Power, added: “Baltic Power consistently follows its schedule and selects suppliers who can boast not only a great deal of experience, but also a readiness to carry out significant part of the work in Poland.
“This is a very important aspect for us as an investor, which translates into building a local value chain for the offshore wind sector, because each of these companies are already intensively looking for sub-suppliers in Poland.”
The Baltic Power wind farm will be erected 23 kilometres off shore, near Łeba and Choczewo and is slated for completion in 2026.
