The offshore substation for the 500MW Fecamp wind project off France’s northwest coast has been successfully installed.
DEME Offshore’s Orion jack-up lifted the topside into place following installation earlier this month of four jacket foundations at the substation, which is located around 17km offshore.
The operation took place over “a few hours” on 11 August, according to an update.
Atlantique Offshore Energy finalised the construction, outfitting and onshore commissioning of the substation at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard Saint Nazaire in June.
The 41-metre long and 29-metre-wide substation weight in at 2,100 tons. It will transform power from Fecamp’s planned 71 turbines and will be connected to the shore via two submarine cables.
The project, which is owned by a consortium of EDF, Enbridge, CPPIB and WPD, is due to be commissioned next year.
The first gravity base foundation for turbines was installed at the site at the beginning of August.
