An investigation is underway into the cause of a turbine fire at Ventient Energy’s 30MW Ardrossan wind farm in western Scotland.
The project owner confirmed “an incident provoking fire damage” to a single turbine occurred on the afternoon of Friday 22 July.
The blaze was extinguished in the early hours of Saturday morning and the site has now been secured.
There are 15 Vestas V80 turbines installed at the wind farm, according to Ventient’s website.
Vestas has been contacted for comment.
A Ventient spokesperson said: “An investigation into the cause of the incident has begun and further inspections on site are ongoing.”
They confirmed there were no injuries or land damage caused and the damaged turbine has now been isolated and disconnected from the system.
“Access to the wind farm is now off-limits and monitored with a 24/7 security team deployed to protect the area and the public.”
Ardrossan wind farm has been operational in North Ayrshire since 2004. It was acquired by Ventient Energy from Infinis in 2017.
