Iberdrola-owned company Ailes Marines has started foundation installation at the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm off France.
A total of 62 jacket foundations will be installed for the project’s turbines.
Five vessels have been mobilised for the installation phase, Ailes Marines said.
Each jacket foundation weighs 1150 tonnes, is 75 metres high and 25 metres square and will be fixed to the seabed by three 18-47-metre long piles, previously installed by the Aeolus.
The Seven Borealis vessel has been mobilised for lifting and installing the foundations, with the North Sea Giant carrying out sealing.
Three tugboats (Kamarina, Eraclea, Onyx) and two barges (Sarens Caroline, H401) are carrying out the transport.
Iberdrola director of offshore France Emmanuel Rollin said: “Ten years after being chosen as the winner of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, the installation of the first foundation marks a significant step in the realisation of this ambitious marine renewable energy project.
“At a time when electricity markets are under severe pressure, the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm – which will produce the equivalent of 9% of Brittany’s electricity consumption – will contribute to its energy autonomy and to the essential energy transition.”
