Polish companies PKN Orlen and PGE have submitted applications to try and secure licences for new offshore wind sites made available by Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure.
PKN Orlen has applied for seven of the 11 areas on offer in the second round, and plans to put in applications for the other four.
It said the seven sites it has applied for would support about 7GW of offshore wind capacity, with the remaining four delivering approximately 3.5GW.
Applications have been submitted through company subsidiaries Orlen Neptun and Energa, it said.
PGE said it has applied for six areas. Two of the applications have been made with Enea and one with Tauron.
The Ministry of Infrastructure launched the second round of offshore wind leasing in Poland on 21 January, when three of the 11 sites were officially opened for applications.
Another three were opened for offers today, with the remainder expected to be launched soon
Applications have to be submitted within 60 days of publication on the Ministry of Infrastructure website.
