Swiss energy trader Alpiq has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) in Finland for power produced by an 83MW wind farm.
Alpiq signed the PPA with with Merkkikallio Wind, owned by Renewable Power Capital (RPC).
Alpiq will off-take power from RPC’s Merkkikallio wind farm with a long-term PPA.
The wind farm is located near the city of Vaasa, in Southern Ostrobothnia, and consists of 15 wind turbines with a total capacity of 82.5MW.
Alpiq head of Nordics origination Matti Ahtsalo said: “The agreement is a milestone towards further strengthening Alpiq’s market position in the Nordics.
“We are very pleased that RPC trusts our market expertise and has entered into a long-term cooperation with us.
“Smooth cooperation with RPC throughout the process gives a solid basis for the further business opportunities.”,
RPC chief executive Bob Psaradellis added: “As part of our mission to enable a cleaner, greener Europe, we are excited to be working together with Alpiq.
“Our PPA will provide additional reliable, renewable energy into Finland’s energy mix. As a long-term owner of renewable energy projects, we look forward to continuing to build lasting partnerships in the region and the community as part of the energy transition.”
Alpiq aims to further increase its market share in the Nordic countries and expects rising demand for PPAs in the Nordics as well as throughout Europe as the energy trade sector becomes “increasingly dynamic” and demand for “tailor-made, complex products and solutions” for industry customers continues to grow.
