JERA has submitted an initial environmental impact document regarding a planned offshore wind project of up to 356MW off the Akita prefecture in Japan.
JERA submitted its Primary Environmental Impact Consideration Document for the Happo Town and Noshiro City Offshore Wind Power Generation Project 1 to the Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry.
The document summarises the results of deliberations concerning environmental conservation issues to be considered at the project planning stage.
On 28 January the document will be posted to JERA’s website and be made available for public review at administrative agencies.
JERA will continue to move the project forward under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry and other related authorities, giving “due consideration to the opinions of other stakeholders”.
JERA stated the favourable wind conditions and shallow seabed off Happo and Noshiro make the area suitable for the development of bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation.
The project could host up to 30 wind turbines.
JERA has also participated in offshore wind projects in the UK and Taiwan and said it will apply the experience and expertise gained in the construction and operation of such large-scale offshore wind projects to the project off Happo.
