Enel Green Power has inaugurated two solar plants totalling almost 40MW in Panama.
The 13.12MW Jaguito project is located in El Roble in Cocle province, and the 26.24MW Esperanza facility is located in Progreso in Chiriqui region.
Together they will generate almost 60 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year and avoid annual emissions of more than 35,400 tonnes of CO2.
Jaguito features 32,130 monocrystalline PV panels, covering an area of 13 hectares, while Esperanza includes 64,440 of the same panels within an area of 40 hectares.
Enel said the two solar plants will contribute to the economic reactivation of Panama and will feed the local operation of important clients in the commercial and industrial sector of the country.
Enel Green Power head of Central America Bruno Riga said: “The construction of two new solar plants in Panama is one more example of our commitment to developing renewable energy sources throughout Central America.
“We are focused on promoting sustainable growth, involving local communities, providing trainings to area residents, promoting human resources, managing good practices in climate action and decarbonization.
“We are pleased to make our innovative and cutting-edge technology, experience, and leadership available to our clients in the supply of renewable energies so that they can achieve their sustainability objectives, thus letting us become their allies for sustainable development.”
The company said that it is currently the largest solar generator in Panama, with an installed capacity of 62MW and it expects to exceed 100MW of PV capacity by the end of 2021.
