Italy’s Ministry of Ecological Transition has received 64 expressions of interest regarding floating offshore wind off the country’s coast.
The ministry said 55 came from companies and business associations, three from environmental groups and seven from other groups, such as researchers and universities.
It added that at least 20 expressions included detailed projects, with 40 floating offshore wind farms examined.
These projects were mainly located off the coasts of Sicily and Sardinia (20), along the Adriatic coast (10) and the remainder distributed between the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas.
Companies that responded included Vestas, Falck Renewables, Copenhagen Offshore Partners, RWE, Saipem, Principle Power, Ocean Winds, Fred Olsen Renewables, Eni, DEME Offshore, and BayWa r.e.
The ministry added that first round of bilateral meetings with the individual companies and groups of proposing companies is ending.
It said a further round of meetings is already foreseen to “enhance the possible synergies deriving from the provision of more plants in the same sea areas, in agreement between the proponents, and to share the status of the works with the environmental protection associations and other subjects participants”.
