Belgium is to beef up the offshore wind capacity made available in the Princess Elisabeth zone to up to 3500MW from 2GW previously.
The country’s Council of Ministers agreed to the change at a meeting this morning.
The government will launch a competitive tender for the award of state concessions in the Princess Elisabeth area.
In the Marine Space Development Plan 2020-2026, the Princess Elisabeth area consists of three areas – Noordhinder Noord, Noordhinder Zuid and Fairybank.
The grid operator Elia is invited to work out the details of the connections for the Princess Elisabeth area and to submit them to the Council of Ministers for approval.
Elia is also requested to provide for the possibility of connecting interconnections when working out the details.
