East Lothian Council has recommended approval for onshore infrastructure at Cockenzie for the 36-turbine the Seagreen 1a offshore wind farm.
The planning permission in principle is for an onshore substation, underground electricity cables and associated temporary and permanent infrastructure to export electricity from the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm into the national electricity transmission network.
The applications were submitted this year to East Lothian Council for onshore works and Marine Scotland for offshore works.
Seagreen is a 1.5GW offshore wind farm development owned by SSE Renewables (49%) and Total (51%).
The Seagreen 1A project comprises the infrastructure to connect the remaining 36 offshore turbines to the grid and consists of an offshore cable corridor from the wind farm to Cockenzie and proposals for landfall, the onshore cable corridor and the onshore substation.
The project infrastructure is located in the Energy Zone of the former Cockenzie power station site in Scotland.
The Seagreen 1A team aims to position the substation next to the existing ScottishPower building.
The application site lies to the west and south of the former Cockenzie Power Station site.
It comprises of an area of land measuring some 22.9 hectares and extends from Prestonpans Beach, south over the B1348 Edinburgh Road which bisects the site, then eastwards to the 6371 public road.
