Offshore Wind Consultants founder Ian Bonnon, a well-known figure in the offshore wind industry, has died.
Ian (pictured) passed away on Monday 22 February. Having made a full recovery from lung cancer two and a half years ago, he was diagnosed with liver and bone cancer last December.
“Ian was upbeat and positive, whilst trying to support those around him, but sadly the cancer progressed quickly,” said OWC.
He was a well-respected figure in the offshore renewables industry. He had nearly 40 years’ experience in the offshore wind, oil and gas, marine and subsea cable industries.
OWC was founded by Ian in 2011 to provide consultancy services to offshore wind farm developers and investors. Under his leadership, it grew into the multi-national company.
“Ian had his own unique blend of professionalism combined with a mischievous side, which brought a special feeling to those with whom he worked,” said OWC managing director William Cleverly.
“Ian had a great sense of humour and fun, was a keen golfer, achieving a hole in one, a collector and dealer of specialist antique glass and really enjoyed the thrill of an auction. He was also very generous with his time, and for many years was the Chairman of his local football club, giving an opportunity for youngsters to develop their skills on and off the pitch.”
The OWC founder had also established his own charity, The IDB Charity, to raise money for supporting cancer and homelessness. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Ian, you can do so here. OWC said it will match donations.
“Whilst Ian was OWC’s Chairman, it is his warmth, compassion, kindness and huge charisma for which he will be most remembered. He will be greatly missed,” added Cleverly.
