EDF powers French public transport

Golden Plains glitters for EDF in Iowa

EDF is to supply electricity to French state-owned public transport operator RATP from five wind farms in France under a three-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

Supply of 170 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity started in January from the Freyssenet Saint Martin des Besaces, Oupia, Vanault, Longue Epine and Fonds de Fresne projects, located in the Calvados, Herault, Marne and Somme regions, respectively.

EDF will deliver 51GWh this year and 60GWh each in 2022 and 2023, representing about 4% of RATP’s consumption.

The supply is provided by and under the control of Agrgio, a subsidiary of the EDF group specialising in the optimisation of renewable energy production.

RATP head of sustainable development Sophie Mazoue said: “The RATP group has long been committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its activities.

“The establishment of this first renewable electricity sales contract is a concrete illustration of the RATP group’s commitment to ecological transition and carbon neutrality.

“Our ambition is that by 2025, 10% of our annual consumption will be produced from green electricity.”

EDF key accounts director Nelly Recrosio said: “Integrated into the supply of electricity, this PPA contract marks a new stage in our partnership with RATP, which we are supporting in terms of economic performance and its energy transition.

“In France, 98% of our production does not emit CO2, our production mix includes more than 20% of renewable origin. This PPA embodies the low carbon ambitions of the RATP Group.”
