Enel Green Power Espana has completed construction and generated electricity at the La Vega 1 and 2 solar farms in Spain which have a combined capacity of 86MW.
The projects, located near Malaga in the municipality of Teba, comprise about 224,600 panels, 14 transformation centres, one substation and around 50km of underground cabling.
Enel said La Vega 1 and 2 cost €60m to build, with over 380 people involved during construction.
The plants will generate 171 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
Enel Green Power head of construction Luca Capuozzo said: “The connection to the network of La Vega 1 and 2 is a great source of pride, not just for me, but also for the 300 colleagues who have made it possible in record time for the Malaga territory.”
The company is using virtual reality to monitor these facilities through smart glasses, which allow supervisors to remotely observe to the construction works without the need to physically reach the building area.
In addition, the technology incorporates an infrared camera that gives a real-time view of construction and implementation activities, Enel said.
The company currently operates over 7812MW of installed renewable capacity in Spain, which include 4711MW from conventional hydro, 2362MW from wind, 657MW from solar, 79MW from mini-hydro and 3MW from other sources.
