Acciona has started energising turbines at the 198MW La Chalupa wind farm in the US state of Texas.
The project, which is located in Cameron County, is equipped with 63 Nordex AWP3150 machines.
The turbines have a rotor diameter of more than 121 metres and are mounted on steel towers with a hub height of about 92 metres.
La Chalupa includes the construction of an 18-km HV line to send the power generated to the grid for sale on the ERCOT-South Texas wholesale market.
The project will be Acciona’s largest US wind farm when fully operational.
It is the company’s 10th wind farm in the US, and takes Acciona’s total wind capacity in the US to 1064MW.
Acciona US energy division director Rafael Esteban said: “This new investment highlights Acciona’s commitment to the US renewables market.
“It will allow us to pass 1000MW of installed capacity in the US, where we also have a major portfolio of renewable projects under development.”
The Nordex AWP 3150 wind turbines installed at La Chalupa are similar to those in the Palmas Altas, which are suitable for the wind resource of the area.
