The Scottish government is hopeful a buyer can be found for fabricator BiFab, following the announcement that Deloitte has been appointed as administrator for the company.
Scottish Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop said the Scottish government would “continue to do everything in its power to support BiFab’s workers and help forge a new future for the yards in Fife and the Western Isles”.
She said: “We are hopeful that a buyer willing to invest in the business will be found and we will work closely with administrators and trade unions to secure the best possible outcome for the workforce, the yards and local communities.
“We have already had requests for information from interested parties and will share these with the administrators to explore all of the options available.
“I have also contacted Saipem reiterating our commitment to BiFab’s workforce and to the contract to build foundation jackets for the Neart na Gaoithe project being delivered in Scotland.”
BiFab said it did not have anything further to add.
BiFab said in early December that it was entering into administration after a meeting of the Scottish fabricator’s board agreed to the move.
A statement at the time said the move followed the Scottish government’s removal of “contract assurances” in relation to a deal for eight jackets for the 450MW Neart na Gaoithe project.
Meanwhile, Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland Ian Murray has called for a joint inquiry by the Scottish and UK governments into the decision to remove the contract assurances.
