Vattenfall and Regensburg-based project developer Primus Energie have signed a cooperation agreement for the planning and development of onshore wind energy projects in Germany.
Under the deal, onshore wind farms in eastern and southern Germany are to be jointly developed and implemented in the future.
Vattenfall will take on both the role of investor and responsibility for the optimisation of the energy industry for the later operation of the systems.
It is hoped the collaboration will minimise the electricity production costs through using innovative technologies and economies of scale in the portfolio.
Vattenfall head of project development onshore wind Germany Philipp Heucke said: “We are very pleased that we now have an experienced and regionally very well networked partner at our side in Primus Energie.”
Vattenfall and Primus Energie share the market view that there is no way around expanding onshore wind energy if Germany wants to achieve its climate targets by 2030.
An attractive market environment must be created in the medium to long term, they argue.
As a result, agreement between the two partners is a long-term one.
Primus Energie GmbH managing director Jürgen Meyer-Menz said: “The challenges for the development of wind power projects on land have grown steadily, even though it is the cheapest and most efficient regenerative energy production.
“From the perspective of a medium-sized developer, they can best be mastered in strong and synergetic partnerships.
“We are consistently pursuing this strategy and are certain that we have found one of the strongest partners in Vattenfall, with whom we can successfully contribute to the absolutely upcoming and necessary further expansion of wind power.”
