GE Renewable Energy has been selected by the Püspök Group to provide turbines for two wind farms with a combined 157MW capacity in Burgenland, Austria.
The deal provides for 30 GE Cypress machines with 158 metre rotors to be installed at the repowering projects and includes a multi-year service contract which GE said would enable it to establish a service organisation in the country next year.
Püspök will operate the turbines, which will have two-piece blades manufactured by GE subsidiary LM Wind Power, at a 5.5 MW capacity.
Turbine installation will commence in Q1 2021 and the turbines will be fully commissioned and operational by end of 2021.
Püspök Group MD Lukas Püspök said the projects were a “milestone” in the company’s history and thanked GE for its work.
GE’s European onshore wind chief executive Peter Wells added: “We’re delighted to partner with Püspök on this project, and we are thrilled they’ve selected our Cypress platform.”
“We’re proud to create service jobs in Austria and help bring additional clean, affordable, renewable energy to the country.”
GE said its two-piece blade design enabled longer blades, improved logistics and offered more siting options in locations that were previously inaccessible.
