A Wales-Ireland marine energy initiative has picked Sabella to pilot its technology in a demonstration.
The SELKIE project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Ireland Wales Cooperation programme.
SELKIE is developing multi-use technology tools, templates, standards and models for use across the sector in Wales and Ireland.
The demonstration pilot using Sabella’s technology will help validate techno-economic models, foundations and mooring design, physical and numerical array modelling, sensor optimisation and data analysis as well as operations and maintenance models.
France-based Sabella is targeting marine applications for remote grids with its range of modular products.
The company has already demonstrated its 1MW device during sea trials since 2015.
The SELKIE initiative is bringing together research and industry to improve the performance of marine energy devices and technologies.
University College Cork is leading the project in partnership with Swansea University, Marine Energy Wales, Menter Mon, DP Energy Ireland and Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions.
Sabella has also signed up to be part of the Morlais tidal demonstration zone in North Wales.
