Dutch marine contractor Van Oord has removed a mono bucket foundation from Northland Power’s 252MW Deutsche Bucht project in the German North Sea.
The foundation was installed last autumn as part of a doomed attempt to demo Universal Foundation’s suction monopile foundation design at a two-turbine annex to the project.
Northland Power paused the trial project during the installation of the first base citing technical issues.
The demo project, which was due to feature MHI Vestas V164 turbines, was subsequently abandoned.
Van Oord removed the foundation this week using Boskalis crane vessel Bokalift-1 and took the base to the Dutch port of Eemshaven.
A Northland Power spokesperson told reNEWS the foundation will be inspected while it works to evaluate the cause of technical issues encountered during installation.
