Commissioning is complete and the 200MW Trianel Windpark Borkum 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea is now fully operational.
The project, also known as Borkum West 2.2, features 32 Senvion 6.33MW turbines, which were installed by Jan De Nul, Danish outfit Global Wind Service and Fred Olsen Windcarrier.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier jack-up Blue Tern was drafted in to install the final 11 turbines at the project.
Installation was initially planned to complete in 2019 but bad weather and the insolvency of Senvion caused delays to the project timetable.
Borkum West 2.2 is located 45km off the northern coast of Borkum Island.
The developers are EWE (37.5%), a joint venture of the power utility of the city of Zurich (24.51%), and Trianel and 17 German municipal utilities (37.99%).
