The Highland Council has granted planning permission for Energiekontor’s 10 turbine Lairg 2 onshore wind farm in Sutherland, Scotland.
Four turbines have been cut from the originally proposed scheme with a further three reduced in size.
The site is located 4km south-east of Lairg and will have a maximum capacity of 34.5MW. It will feature seven machines with 180 metre tip heights and three with 150 metre tip heights.
The site also features a battery storage compound.
Councillors voted to consent the development in a virtual committee meeting yesterday, following the recommendation of the planning officer who said she had negotiated changes to the proposal during determination.
The planning application was submitted in March last year.
Supplementary information was submitted in September and again in February which reduced the turbines and micro-sited remaining machines and infrastructure outside areas of deep peat and away from watercourses and potential bat features.
Conditions are understood to require shadow flicker and television reception mitigation plans, as well as a comprehensive protection plan for private water supplies, and a scheme for ongoing ornithological monitoring.
Existing access tracks to ABO Wind’s Lairg 1 wind farm, which features three 99.5 metre 2.5MW Nordex N80 turbines, will be used as part of access routes to the site.
Turbines will be delivered via Invergordon port.
