Japanese power company JERA has announced that it is joining both the World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) and its Floating Offshore Wind Committee (FOWC).
JERA said that as a member of WFO and FOWC, it will contribute to the growth of floating offshore wind power generation by working in cooperation with other member companies and organizations to promote initiatives related to advocacy and policymaking, cost reductions, the highest health and safety standards, and engagement with stakeholders.
WFO’s subsidiary Floating Offshore Wind Committee plans to begin activities in June 2020.
JERA said it would actively promote large-scale offshore wind power generation projects in Japan and overseas and contribute to the sustainable expansion of offshore wind power generation by taking part in related organisations.
JERA will join 26 existing members which include Innogy, RWE, Deme, ORE Catapult and several wind members associations. In addition to offshore wind power operators, WFO members include global companies and organizations from fields such as finance, law, and insurance.
Founded in Germany in 2018, WFO is a non-profit organization that seeks to foster the global growth of offshore wind energy by collecting and disseminating related information and educating government officials around the world.
