Fred Olsen Windcarrier will supply jack-up vessel Jill for preliminary geotechnical investigations for the up to 1GW Danish offshore wind project Thor.
Danish offshore survey specialist Geo will deploy the self-propelled DP2 liftboat for its borehole campaign at the site in the Danish North Sea, from June 2020.
Engineers onboard Jill will acquire geotechnical and geological information about the subsurface to be used as a basis for developers to assess the soil conditions for the Thor project.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier sales manager Thomas Lund said: “We are very excited to be working with Geo on this project.
“The two companies combine the best of maritime and offshore wind experience with the most extensive expertise within the fields of soil and seabed investigations.”
Geo department director Jens Brink Clausen added: “We are looking forward to do the first geotechnical work on Thor for Energinet this summer. Our new cooperation with Fred Olsen Windcarrier will ensure a very safe and robust solution for the drilling operations.”
The Danish Energy Agency will publish its final tender design for Thor in the third quarter of this year.
The project site is located 20km off the coast of Jutland and is due to come online in 2027.
Last year Fred Olsen Windcarrier signed a long-term time charter with Falcon Global for Jill for work in the offshore wind sector.
The vessel is equipped with 102 metre-long legs, a rack and pinion hydraulic jacking system, a large cargo deck, a main crane plus three auxiliary cranes.
