Orsted has dispatched the first lot of Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines for installation at its 752MW Borssele 1&2 offshore wind project off the Netherlands.
DEME Offshore jack-up Sea Challenger departed the Danish port of Esbjerg carrying the first four out of 94 turbines that will be installed at the site next week.
Orsted said it is doing its “utmost” to keep building the project amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“We do this in a way that puts the health and safety of employees first. For the time being, this is succeeding, and construction is on schedule,” the developer wrote in a recent project update.
“We are helped in this by good cooperation with our subcontractors and a constructive dialogue with national and local authorities that intelligently implement the necessary health and safety measures.”
DEME Offshore is continuing to install monopile and transition pieces at the project from Rotterdam port using its Innovation vessel.
The jack-up began work at the project in January and is making swift progress, with 47 of the turbine foundations now in place.
“Together with Orsted, we will continue our excellent partnership for the remaining foundations,” said DEME Offshore general manager Bart De Poorter.
“I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the client, our crew and project staff for the great achievement on the foundation installation, considering the unprecedented challenges they are all facing.”
Borssele 1&2 is Orsted’s first project in the Netherlands and is due online later this year.
