The UK renewables industry stands ready to support the national effort to respond to the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, according to trade body RenewableUK.
Deputy chief executive Melanie Onn (pictured) said today that the green energy sector is “critical infrastructure” and is working with London to be part of the response.
“RenewableUK is engaging with our members and Government to work through the impacts of the Covid-19 on renewable energy projects, our supply chain which includes many small and medium-sized companies, and our workforce, and helping firms to access the support announced by the Chancellor,” Onn said.
“The overriding priority at the moment is public health and companies and individuals should follow Government advice to reduce the spread of Coronavirus.”
Boris Johnson’s UK government last week moved to categorise the electricity industry as a “critical sector” during the COVID-19 emergency.
There are currently just under 6000 cases of the virus in the UK with 281 recorded deaths.
