The European Commission is to release almost €980m in funding for energy infrastructure as part of the Connecting Europe Facility.
A call for proposals has opened until 27 May for projects that contribute to the EU’s mid-term and long-term objectives in terms of decarbonisation.
Projects must be designated as Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) in the EU’s fourth PCI list to be eligible to apply.
PCIs are considered essential for completing the EU’s internal energy market, and are required to have a significant impact on at least two EU countries.
Proposed projects, which can be either studies or works, will be evaluated against several criteria, including the state of maturity, cross-border dimension, and to what extent they will remove bottlenecks and end energy isolation.
Submissions will be evaluated between June and September, and the results are expected to be announced in October.
