RWE has brought online the 151MW Peyton Creek wind farm in the US state of Texas.
Peyton Creek, which is located in Matagorda County, features 48 Nordex 3.15MW turbines and feeds power to the ERCOT delivery region in the US.
The project was completed on time, despite more than 23 inches of rain falling in less than 24 hours during Tropical Storm Imelda in September 2019.
RWE Renewables director of development North America onshore Paul Bowman said: “This was truly a team effort to bring the project together and successfully start commercial operation.
“Even more impressive than overcoming the challenges they faced, our construction team has established a remarkable safety record, going 449 days without a recordable safety incident.”
RWE Renewables chief operating officer onshore wind and solar PV Americas Silvia Ortin said: “The completion of this project and surpassing the 4-gigawatt mark for total operated wind capacity is an important statement of our intent to grow our portfolio of projects.
“With our unparalleled experience and expertise, we are well-positioned to take advantage of changing dynamics in the renewable energy industry.”
RWE said further onshore wind farms in the US are currently under construction, including the 220MW Cranell and 440MW Big Raymond also in Texas, and the 150MW Boiling Springs in Oklahoma.
