PaxOcean Group in Singapore has signed a contract with Penta-Ocean Construction to build a wind turbine installation vessel for deployment in Japan’s offshore wind industry.
Scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2022, the self-elevating platform (SEP), or jack-up, vessel will be based on a GustoMSC design, equipped with four tubular legs and four azimuth thrusters.
Penta-Ocean Construction, Kajima Corporation and Yorigami Maritime Construction placed an order for the vessel in November 2019.
It is designed for work with fixed foundations and turbines in the 10MW to 12MW capacity range.
Penta-Ocean Construction president and chief executive Officer of Penta-Ocean Construction Takuzo Shimizu said: “We believe this new SEP will make a significant contribution to Japan’s offshore wind power generation expansion with the highly efficient and cost-effective construction.
“I look forward to a successful completion of this SEP vessel and I believe this first contract will lead to continued collaboration with PaxOcean in the future.”
The SEP will be fitted with a 1600-tonne leg encircling crane. It will be large enough to have a clear deck area of approximately 3800 square metres with accommodation for up to 80 people.
PaxOcean chief executive Tan Thai Yong said: “This SEP will be built at our yard in Batam, leveraging on our strong track record of having delivered 12 high-quality jack-ups and SEPs to several satisfied international customers in the past.
“With Penta-Ocean’s strong operational capabilities marrying PaxOcean’s expertise in the construction of jack-ups and SEPs, I am confident that with our combined strengths, we will complete this project successfully.”
