The French government has increased its offshore wind tender ambitions for this decade to around 8GW, up from a previous target of 5GW.
Emmanuel Macron’s (pictured) administration released the beefed-up goals in a new energy roadmap or Programmation pluriannuelle de l’énergie (PPE).
Tenders will include up to 1GW rounds for fixed foundation projects starting this year and up to three 250MW competitions for floating sites between 2021 and 2023.
The document also maps growth targets for onshore wind and a winding down of the use of fossil fuel generation.
The energy “transition should be carried out ambitiously giving a clear trajectory”, stated the plan.
“This multi-year program of energy draws the path that the government will take over the next 10 years and beyond for certain themes.”
A consultation on the plans runs to 19 February.
