Japanese companies Jera Corporation and Shimizu Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on offshore wind projects.
Under the terms of the deal, each company will utilise its know-how and resources to collaborate on projects both in Japan and overseas.
They will make preparations for a public offering to be implemented by the government for the development of offshore wind projects in Japan, including in Akita prefecture.
In addition, the companies will explore suitable sites and study technologies for further business development.
Jera is already involved in projects in the UK and Taiwan, accumulating know-how in the construction and operation of offshore wind power generation, it said.
Shimizu has expertise in the design and construction of onshore and offshore wind farms and is currently building a jack-up vessel.
