UAE-based AMEA Power is to build a 500MW wind farm and 200MW solar plant in Egypt after securing power purchase agreements with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for the projects.
AMEA Power subsidiary Amunet Wind Power Company will build, own and operate the 500MW wind farm in the Ras Ghareb region of the country, backed by a 20-year take-or-pay agreement.
Abyodos Solar Power Company, another AMEA Power subsidiary, will build, own and operate the 200MW photovoltaic project in the Kom Ombo region of Aswan, supported by a 25-year take-or-pay agreement.
The solar farm is scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2021, with the wind farm due online in the third quarter of 2023.
The combined projects are expected to produce nearly 2.9 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year.
The PPAs were signed by EETC president Sabah Mashali and AMEA Power chairman Hussain Al Nowais.
