The 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm took the judges award in the Scottish Green Energy Awards, the winners of which were announced at an event in Edinburgh last night.
Scotland’s Minister for Energy, Connectivity and the Islands Paul Wheelhouse scooped the outstanding contribution award, Aberdeen City Council won the sustainable development category for its hydrogen strategy and the contribution to skills title went to ESP for its wind and marine training network.
Green Marine took the outstanding service award, SP Energy Networks picked up the outstanding project title for its Green Economy Fund and Canna Renewable Energy and Electrification won the community project prize for the CREE project on the Isle of Canna.
Green Marine managing director Jason Schofield said: “To win this prestigious award came as a complete shock at the awards event, we were shortlisted amongst some of the best supply chain companies in the world.
“For Green Marine to win this award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, also recognising the excellent client and supplier base that we have built up over the years.”
Other winners last night were Fife Council’s Glenrothes Energy Network, which won the best engagement category, Pict Offshore’s Get up Safe system was awarded the best innovation prize, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks took the best practice awards for its biodiversity net gain approach and site optioneering toolkit and Balfour Beatty, Dundee City Council and ESB’s Caird Park low carbon district energy hub scooped the carbon reduction award.
Dave Pearson from Star Renewable Energy was named Champion of Renewables, with Ethan Glencross from Renewable Parts winning the young inspiring award.
Scottish Renewables chief executive Claire Mack said: “Once again, the Scottish Green Energy Awards showcase the truly incredible innovation, drive and passion of those working within our industry.
“The diverse range of projects shortlisted tonight highlights the phenomenal skillset of our industry – one which continues to push the boundaries of innovation, maintaining Scotland’s place as a world leader in renewable energy.
“The commitment, knowledge and hard work of those within the industry is making a significant positive impact on Scotland’s economy as we continue to mitigate carbon emissions and work towards achieving net zero by 2045.
“The Scottish Green Energy Awards is the perfect place to come together to celebrate the achievements of our industry and the inspirational people and organisations within it. My congratulations go to all nominees, and of course the winners.”
The 2019 Scottish Green Energy Awards was headline-sponsored by EDF Renewables.
