Consumers Energy has started generating electricity from the 76MW Cross Winds 3 wind farm in Michigan.
The 33-turbine Cross Winds 3 cost $150m and employed over 250 workers during construction in Tuscola County.
In total, the Cross Winds Energy Park features 114 turbines with a combined capacity of 231MW.
Phase 1 began operations in December 2014 and phase 2 started in January 2018.
Sixteen people are employed full time at the Cross Winds facility.
Consumers Energy vice president of enterprise project management Dennis Dobbs said: “Each spinning wind turbine producing sustainable, renewable energy breathes life into our Clean Energy Plan, a commitment we’ve made to our Michigan friends and neighbours to eliminate coal, cut harmful emissions and help greatly improve the quality of our state’s water and air.
“Thanks go to the people of Columbia and Akron townships who welcomed us into their community.
“We are looking forward to being a good neighbour in the community for the long term.”
Consumers Energy, which is Michigan’s largest energy provider, is a subsidiary of CMS Energy.
