Ofgem has accepted Thanet OFTO Limited’s claim that an exceptional event led to reduction in system availability from the 300MW Thanet offshore wind farm off England’s Kent coast in 2015.
Thanet OFTO Limited suffered a problem with the export cable starting on 23 February 2015, with full operations restored by 7 July of the same year.
The UK energy regulator accepted that this was an exceptional event and so Thanet OFTO Limited will have its reported system incentive performance adjusted to offset the full duration of the outage – 482,192.30 megawatt-hours.
Ofgem said Thanet OFTO Limited took adequate steps in accordance with “good industry practice” to manage the fault.
The OFTO took “prudent and timely steps to identify the root cause of the fault, restore transmission services and mobilised appropriate resources to repair the fault in a timely manner”.
Thanet OFTO Limited owns the grid assets, with Vattenfall owning the generation assets at the offshore wind farm.
