Sweden is considering a phase-out of onshore wind subsidies at the same time as Norway in 2021, according to Reuters.
Energy Minister Anders Ygeman told the news agency that an early end to participation in the joint Norway-Sweden green certificates subsidy scheme “makes sense”.
“We have good faith that we will be able to have more or less the same timetable…because the system is not relevant any more,” he said.
Sweden officially plans to continue with the green certificates subsidy scheme until 2030, unlike Norway which is ending participation at the end of 2021.
Ygeman told Reuters however that onshore wind farms are profitable without subsidies.
Sweden will explore how to boost onshore wind deployment via a new development framework, he told Reuters.
