Colombia has received a bid from a subsidiary of Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in its first offshore wind auction, according to Reuters.
Reuters cited Orlando Velandia, head of Colombia’s National Hydrocarbons Agency, who said CIP subsidiary CI GMF Cooperatief U.A. submitted an offer under the country’s inaugural offshore wind energy round.
Velandia told a forum in Cartagena that the participation of CIP, one of the world’s leading energy infrastructure investment funds, represents an international vote of confidence in Colombia’s energy transition, Reuters reported.
The government aims to award contracts for at least 1GW of installed capacity through the tender, Reuters added.
Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy granted preliminary approval in December for eight companies to take part, including Ecopetrol, Celsia, Jan De Nul, DEME, Dyna Energy, Powerchina and China Three Gorges, according to Reuters.
By February, participants had proposed 69 potential project areas, the agency said.
Reuters reported that President Gustavo Petro is promoting renewable energy development to reduce Colombia’s reliance on fossil fuels.
