Goldwind Americas has won a 200MW order for a wind project being developed in Saskatchewan in Canada.
Potentia Renewables is developing the Golden South wind project located in Assiniboia, expected online by the end of 2020.
The project will use 50 of Goldwind’s latest wind turbine series, the 4S MW platform, which features a scalable rated capacity from 4.2MW to 4.5MW and 136 and 155-meter rotor diameters.
Under the terms of the deal with Potentia Renewables, Goldwind will provide long-term maintenance and a comprehensive warranty package.
The developer recently won four large contracted wind projects in Western Canada, including Golden South, equating to more than 625MW of wind power, which are expected online within the next two years.
At the ground-breaking ceremony for the project, attended by land owners, provincial and local officials, utility executives, suppliers and other stakeholders, Potentia Renewables chief executive Jeff Jenner said: “We are pleased to be bringing Goldwind’s leading technology to Canada.
“The direct-drive 4MW turbines combined with the strong Saskatchewan winds and our simple interconnection enabled Potentia to set a world record low price for long-term wind energy contracts.
“This project provides SaskPower with the lowest cost renewable energy in Canada for 25 years.”
At the height of construction, the Golden South wind project will employ 220 people to build the wind farm and up to 10 people will be employed in the asset’s long-term operations.
Potentia is a growing international renewable energy developer, owner and operator with assets in North America and the Caribbean.
Goldwind Americas chief executive David Sale said: “Goldwind is proud to work with Potentia Renewables.
“The latest 4MW turbines, developed for North America, underscore our ongoing commitment to bring industry-leading products and technology to our customers and their projects.”
