Jan De Nul has completed installation of all 20 foundations for the 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 offshore wind farm in the Taiwan Strait.
Jan De Nul mobilised the vessel Seaway Yudin to install the monopiles and transition pieces as the engineering, procurement, construction and installation contractor for the project’s overall balance of plant components.
In less than a year Jan De Nul managed to complete the fabrication process, the sea transport, the load in and out at the marshalling harbour in the Port of Taichung, and the installation of all foundations at the site, 6km from shore.
Jan De Nul is fast tracking the completion of the project, with the parallel installation of scour protection, export and inter-array cables now well underway.
The monopiles range from 752-230 tonnes with a maximum diameter of 8.4 metres and a length ranging from 60.1-79.5 metres.
Each transition piece weighs 465 tonnes and comprises five internal platforms, an external platform and a boat landing.
Formosa 1 Phase 2 is owned by Orsted (35%), JERA (32.5%), Macquarie Capital (25%) and Swancor Holding (7.5%).
The project’s first phase consists of two wind turbines with a total capacity of 8MW.
Extended from the first phase, Formosa 1 Phase 2 will add 20 Siemens Gamesa 6MW wind turbines with a total capacity of 120MW to Formosa 1’s current 8MW capacity.
The 128MW Formosa 1 will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in Taiwan before 2020.
