Vattenfall is to build a boiler house that will supply military barracks in Altenstadt, Germany, with heating from biogas sources, instead of coal.
The Federal Office for Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services Up has taken coal-fired boilers out of operation, which were supplying heating for the Franz-Josef-Strauss Barracks (pictured).
The agency is building a boiler house the will obtain heat supply from the excess heat of a biogas plant on the land of a neighbouring farmer, which would otherwise be released into the surroundings as waste heat.
Vattenfall will integrate heat source into the boiler house, which will cover 50% of the barrack’s hot water and heating requirements.
Vattenfall is also installing three low-temperature boilers for the increased heat demand in the cold season.
