Minesto has redeployed its 500kW Deep Green tidal kite system at its Holyhead Deep test site off Anglesey in north Wales.
The DG500 system (pictured) was re-connected to its seabed foundation following the recent re-installation of offshore site infrastructure.
Minesto first installed the tidal kite device in Holyhead Deep last year prior to removal for upgrades.
“The new method of installing the kite by towing and connecting it to the infrastructure at the foundation rather than on the surface worked really well,” said Minesto chief technology officer Bernt Erik Westre.
“By eliminating offshore kite lifts, we have expanded our operational ability and capacity, while lowering the total cost level at the same time.”
Minesto said this year’s operations will be used as a basis for optimisation and cost reduction of its kite technology.
