Bad weather is hampering turbine installation at an offshore wind farm in the German North Sea under development by Trianel.
Jan De Nul vessel Taillevent started installation of the first of 32 Senvion 6.3MW machines at the end of last week at the Borkum West 2.2 project.
Taillevent arrived at the project’s staging port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands during the week starting 15 July, with three turbines having been planned to be installed by 19 July, although work on the first unit is still ongoing.
“The tower, the nacelle and one rotor blade have been mounted so far. However, the weather conditions are a bit challenging at the moment,” Trianel said.
Installation had been planned to start in the second quarter but was delayed because of Senvion’s financial woes.
Trianel said nacelles, towers and blade components are ready for offshore installation of 18 turbines.
It added that all the tower and blades components had been now completed.
Most of the components are already at Eemshaven, with the remainder expected to be delivered by the autumn.
Trianel aims to have all the turbines commissioned by the end of the year.
