Ireland’s second annual offshore wind conference is to take place in Dublin next month.
Attendees will discuss the Climate Action Plan, which was published earlier this year and for the first time set a target for the sector, at least 3.5GW by 2030.
Developers will debate the steps required to ensure that Ireland adds to its existing offshore tally, the 25MW Arklow Bank project built off the coast of Wicklow more than 15 years ago.
The conference, entitled New Horizons: Ireland’s Offshore Wind, is being organised by the Irish Wind Energy Association. It will take place on 12 September at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin.
“The future for offshore wind energy has never looked brighter,” said IWEA chief executive David Connolly.
“There is a clear commitment from Minister Bruton to treat offshore wind as a top political priority but we can’t underestimate the challenges ahead of us.”
Connolly called for “a robust planning framework, effective grid connection policies and a functioning route to market for offshore wind”.
He added: “Next month’s conference brings together policymakers, experts and industry leaders to find the answers to these questions that will enable us to make Ireland a leader in offshore wind energy.”
