Grid assets in Germany in the area covered by 50Hertz delivered almost 28 terrawatt-hours of renewable electricity from wind and solar in the first half of 2019, up from less than 23TWh in 2018.
Wind power supplied almost 21.6TWh in the first six months of this year, rising from around 16.6TWh in the same period last year.
Solar generation amounted to just over 6TWh in the first half of 2019 – an increase of just under 170 gigawatt-hours, said 50Hertz.
The company said a generally higher volume of wind and offshore capacity contributed to the increase.
Installed wind capacity was 19,571MW in mid-2019, up from 18,856MW at the same time last year, the TSO said.
Photovoltaic systems had an installed capacity of 11,066MW in mid-2019, compared with 10,566MW last year.
“The increase in the installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic plants as well as the higher wind and solar power production between mid-2018 and mid-2019 show that the expansion and use of renewables is continuing in northern and eastern Germany,” 50Hertz said.
