World Forum Offshore Wind (WFO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the UK’s Energy Industries Council (EIC) to collaborate on promoting offshore wind energy globally.
Together, WFO and the EIC will work towards the goal of adding 500GW of offshore wind capacity by 2050.
Under the MoU, signed at the Energy Exports Conference in Aberdeen, Scotland, both organisations have also agreed to collaborate on offshore wind supply chain project activities.
As the offshore wind industry is entering a period of rapid growth, the EIC said it “welcomes this alliance” to help promote the offshore wind sector globally.
EIC chief executive Stuart Broadley said: “We have been working with supply chain companies and especially those diversifying from oil and gas to offshore wind.
“EIC members see the sector as key, in terms of long-term opportunities. We look forward to working with the WFO and look forward to collaborating on many exciting projects and facilitating an exchange between the two industries, starting today here at the EEC.”
Established in 1943, the EIC is the leading trade association for companies working in the global energy industries.
WFO managing director Gunnar Herzig said: “WFO is absolutely delighted to be a partner of the UK’s EIC.
“As the world’s biggest offshore wind market, the UK is in an ideal position to greatly benefit from the global expansion of offshore wind energy.
“We also look forward to working closely with many of the EIC’s members to foster knowledge and exchange ideas between the oil and gas industry and the offshore wind sector.”
